[Milsurplus] The old 2 MHz boat channels ?

I was taking a domestic business flight years ago. The cockpit door was open
as I boarded so I looked in to examine the neat instruments. A license
posted on the inside of the cockpit door caught my eye. It was a FCC Third
Class Radiotelephone License authorizing operation on 2.182 Mhz.
I don't remember the plane but it could have been a 737 designed for
domestic flights. Does a 737 designed for domestic overland flights normally
carry an HF SSB radio? Could this plane have a radio designed for operation
only on the 2182 Emergency frequency?
Can commercial aircraft monitor the 156.8 Mhz Marine Distress frequency?

When crossing either the Atlantic or Pacific and flying in other remote
areas you always tried to monitored 2182 and 500 IAW directives. When a
military HF station could not be raised on the assigned frequency for that
area you could always send out a relay request on 2182 and send your
position information. At least "someone"
had your last known position. :-)
