Yes, and there's really no mistaking a piece of equipment as belonging to one or the other.
The Seattle company started out as "Northern Radiotelephone" but maybe dropped the "Radiotelephone" early postwar in favor of "Northern Radio" as they
also expanded into direction finders and also tried aircraft radio.
I don't know exactly when Northern ( Seattle ) went under. Their latest radio I saw was a SSB set with a row of switches to set the digits of the frequency.

Hue and the group, note that there are TWO Northern Radios. There's the one in Seattle that was (and maybe is?) a manufacturer mostly of marine radios. Then there's the Northern Radio that was located in Manhattan, founded by Sal Barone in the late 40's, that made items like the 253 and others. You can find manuals and other info about THAT Northern Radio at:

http://tmchistory.org/NorthernRadio/northern_index.htm
Northern made all sorts of equipment, but as time went on, they seem to have somewhat specialized on wire-line TTY gizmos of various kinds.

Sal Barone worked for Press Wireless during WW2.. his boss at PreWi was Ray de Pasquale, founder of TMC. It's no accident that Northern and TMC products had similar 'looks'.. :)
