Dave, that's a hell of a good point. I wondered about that dial some. First off, I'm sure it's' NOT "Northern Electric"; someone was not carefully listening when they
took down the nomenclature. I'm sure it should be "Northern Radio" which was a Seattle manufacturer. Second, I have a Northern 253, and it is late 1930s style or
immediate postwar, and Northern didn't buy parts like this for their tunable receivers, they built their own. Of course that National dial wouldn't last two weeks
at sea in a fishing boat.
The wild card is, it may be a "one-off" or special order type of thing. I would have to inspect it myself, which would be fun anyway. I think Northern Radio did have
some special projects. I have a HRO Jr. labeled as a "Northern S-20"; the logging chart on front is marked with fish cannery stations in Alaska. Also have a Forest
Service radio, closest to type SP, which was supplied by Northern to the Forest Service, but which was apparently bought by Northern from another manufacturer.
Thanks for your perceptive comment.
-Hue

I'd take a closer look at that Northern, Hue.
The National dial on the right looks suspect to me.
Paper dial in a salt-water environment?
Might be hacked.
It's too bad that docs and manuals for Northern Electric marine radios are so hard to find. They are cool sets.
