The MT-791/U appeared later than systems containing the RT-70/GRC or the AM-65/GRC. It is unrelated to them in any way.

In the AN/VRC-7, the RT-70 mounts atop the AM-65, which in turn mounts on a MT-300/GR.

The only other somewhat similar system is the AN/PRC-16, where the RT-70 mounts atop a CY-590/GRC (battery box), which in turn mounts on a MT-673/UR.

The MT-791/U is for RATT gear like the TH-5/TG, TA-182/TG, F-98/U, etc. It lacks the essential interconnection box with appropriate cables and connectors that go to the AM-65, the C-375/VRC, and vehicle DC supply.

That MT-300/GR has often been one of the harder and more desirable mounts to find. Prices are often significantly higher than the large and far more complex MT-297/GR mount for the AN/GRC-3, -5, -7 and other related sets. I guess most hobbyists prefer to assemble an AN/VRC-7 rather than an AN/GRC-7.
