    They absorb water over the years and swell.  I have had good success baking them in the oven at 275 for 2-3 hrs.  Some have to be baked twice.  Several people told me it wouldn't work.  I thanked then every time it does lol.

I had one labeled shell with a mismatched innards so i practiced on it. I had to hammer the insert out using a large screwdriver inserted in the opening.The fit seems to be so tight that an application of abrasives, sandpaper, might be called for, to reduce the diameter enough for a more reasonable fit.It looks like reinstalling the insert might be fun. I think you have to insert a screwdriver from the opening – wiring side to depress the locking pins spring,then with the spring depressed, carefully press the insert in.
