I had one labeled shell with a mismatched innards so i practiced on it. I had to hammer the insert out using a large screwdriver inserted in the opening.
The fit seems to be so tight that an application of abrasives, sandpaper, might be called for, to reduce the diameter enough for a more reasonable fit.
It looks like reinstalling the insert might be fun. I think you have to insert a screwdriver from the opening - wiring side to depress the locking pins spring,
then with the spring depressed, carefully press the insert in. Don't slip !

Subject: [Milsurplus] How to open connectors ?
Connectors such as RUGF or GP types - is there a trick to opening them up? There is a screw that inserts to the shell, to fix shell to insert, but
with the screw removed, then what? The connector does not seem eager to come out.
tnx
