It has always been my understanding that the Hallicrafters pre-war set that the Signal Corps bought and turned into/called SCR-543-A (radio was BC-659-A) was originally built for marine service. It was their HT-14.

In larger Pleasure boats on the Ohio River I saw a number of TCS sets, with transmitters on Crystal Control in the late 50 and Early 60s. Fair Radio sold complete sets with cables, Power supplys and all related equipment new in a wooden box. Also some of the commerical boats ran BC 669 sets on crdystal control. I also ssw some other simsular Hallicrafters sets on Tow Boats.
