I think erecting the antenna would have been the challenge, not so much cabling the units together. Also on a beach you have to look for something to lash the
handcrank generator to. But the TBX i don't think was on front lines. Mortar and sniper fire would have been a danger in some places. I think maybe the Navy
coastwatchers in China, using TBXs, had a more precarious time, trying to stay hidden from Japanese patrols. I have wondered why the TBXs were not used more
in the Philippines. Maybe the low top end of the transmitter was limiting - but that could have been modified to 7 MHz or so, following the printed Navy modification
instructions. I think the set was maybe better suited to that use than some other equipment pressed into service, like the AWA 3BZ.
If the TBX is related to the Forest Service SPF, why not the BC-474 ? Oh yeah - we already know that's not the case.
BTW, i have read that the TBX-6 has no radium paint. The -8 is "quite hot" !
