Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
I have a 201 which I use when I do some transformer testing. Still works well. If I need more then a few volts, it is my go to generator. But I have to agree on your price estimate. Doesn't help matters much that Hams are a thrifty bunch! Probably the best outcome is if you break even, unless you know someone into Steampunk.....
The ARB receivers I have that are "improved" are all in different states of distress so no two have the same mods to the front panel. Last time I looked, the dynamotor is usually missing but otherwise no two look alike on the inside either. So it is pretty easy to cobble together a complete and working ARB from a few organ donors. Still a nice radio and it's contract date is my birthday, minus a few years.
>From the photos supplied by Nick, it certainly looks like there wasn't much in military surplus equipment but there was still a lot of equipment there. The times are a changing and surplus seems to go in and out of favor. So if you are downsizing, then there is no need to bring unsold items back home to be eventually scraped or tossed. Better to give it away to a kid in the hopes of generating some interest in the hobby.
Isn't that how we all started out? Someone said, "here kid!"Jim

Hacked BC-348s and ARBs are nobody’s “gateway into the hobby”. In fact, i kind of wonder if anyone at all is looking for a gateway to go thru. If anyone’s looking for a gateway, it’s with the same mindset as militaria and vehicle collectors, and they’re after unhacked, good looking mobile equipment that was emblematic of its time. Some antique radio enthusiasts are willing to take on the unhacking restoration of a mil radio, but that’s definitely a small subset. Yes, one learns it is easy to buy a pile of junk, but it’s so hard to sell it, and as you say, the shaved down actual selling prices make it seem hardly worthwhile, but you have to thin down the pile, and we like this stuff enough that we can’t just give it away into destroying hands.-H
