No. It doesn't. It "gives". Wood for the most part most certainly does NOT "give:. Sytrofoam 
"crushes". wood doesn't...unless you are talking about balsa wood. Even that is harder than 
the styrofoam I use.

I have successfully and safely packed many, many delicate and heavy electronic items 
using that blue builder's styrofoam and have never had any item so packed damaged by it.
