Hi Ray,

No reason that shouldn't work, a plus that it runs on 12-14 volts.
I've done a similar thing using the AC power supply-modulator from the
Clegg Thor 6 meter transceiver to run a 50s vintage mobile rig that used
an external modulator and also an ARC-5 transmitter, both worked fine,
all that was required was to add a small solid-state amplifier to drive
the balanced line input since Clegg put the speech amp in the desktop
box.    But I've thought that these nav/com modulators would be a good
basis for similar "frankenradios"...

Seems to me one PA tube would be the way to go, whatever loss of tank
efficiency may occur isn't going to hurt anything.  A 6V6 modulated by a
6V6 with a 300 volt B+ supply will make 5-6 watts out all day long, so
maybe that helps you get in the ballpark.  I know the ARC-5 VFO will run
as low as 75 volts or so, as I did that in my W2EWL rig to reduce the
3rd harmonic.   Yeah, that 16-pin connector looks like a real goofball,
might be worth at least asking Bill Perry.

Will look forward to seeing the contraption at Xenia in less than
half-a-year.
