[Milsurplus] Nary SCR 299 San Diego....

Back in 1968 three complete Navy SCR 299 rigs , K-51 1 ½ ton Chevy panel truck and K-52 one ton trailer with PE 95, were brought back to the states from the Philippines and unload at port in San Diego. They were made available to Navy Mars folks who had the 'points' to be able to acquire one.

This was told to me by a ham I met back in the early 1980's when I was pursuing trying to buy a BC 610. He was able to get a truck and bring it home and was told by his parents, I think he said he was 18 yo then, that he was to return it !! He said that night that he ran the  radios from power from the house. I don't remember his call or name other than he lived in San Diego and was still running RTTY for Navy MARS when I spoke with him. He was running 610's for his RTTY operation.

I was trying to find out what happened to them back in the mid 90's with no luck. The Navy Mars folks said they have no records of what they had then or where they went...figures.

So anybody down San Diego way ever hear about or see one of these trucks.....or maybe know the fellow who had the truck for a brief time.
