[Milsurplus] BA-3B Battery

I stand corrected; they are BA-38, not BA-3B.  What is used to power 
BC-611's today?  Fill the case with about 60 AAA batteries connected in series?
9V batteries would be better, size-wise, but would they have adequate life?
