Everything is expensive on EBay, except maybe parts and sub assemblies. Try looking under RT-524 or RT-246 directly. I have seen VRC-12 radios selling in the $250.00 to $400.00 price range by many sellers at the Military Vehicle Shows like Gilbert and Aberdeen and paid $400.00 for a RT-246 with mount, antenna, cables and a ton of other parts out at Dayton this year so the bargains are out there. Don’t think EBay has ever been the place for bargains but you find items there that you find no where else.
It’s odd that about four or five years ago there was a lot of VRC-12 radios on the market and although there is still a ton of accessories out there for sale the radios themselves are getting a little harder to find. Seeing the same thing with GRC-106 sets being that there were lots on the market just a year or two ago but not as many now.
