Which reminds me, i have somewhere a hammified T-17 with an F-1 element
mounted right to the top where the cap would be.
I hadn't recalled til a just previous post that the problem with the T-17 is
( mainly? ) the small number of holes transmitting sound
through the cap. I recall also the mic procedure per instruction manuals,
"Hold microphone touching lip."
Yuk, for shared mics, tho not as unpleasant as the "moustache microphone" -
lip microphone.
BTW, did i already ask this - are throat mics used anymore, anywhere?
The close-talking requirement for low output carbon mics reminds me of
something else. Some of you will be familiar with this
story already. TIGHAR published an account of a young listener who reported
picking up Amelia Earhart's transmissions
from the crash-landed plane. The listener reported being able to hear A.E.
and her injured disoriented navigator arguing and
fighting in the cabin. Ah, yas yas. Possibly her aircraft was fitted with a
studio broadcast microphone?
But i DON'T want to open that particular can again.
