Mike,

With all due respect, that's just not true.  The ARR-41 is a double 
conversion set with a crystal controlled first converter, feeding a 
tuned IF of either 2-3 or 3-4 MHz, and then into a 500 KHz second IF.

This is clearly another elaboration of the Collins 51J architecture, as 
is the R-390 and R-392.  The result is a BC-348 that can be put on 
frequency accurately.
