I still have a nice stack of Tucker Electronics catalogs from the 1990s,
which they regularly mailed me even though i never bought a thing from them.
At the time, i was interested in what i saw as Tucker's moves to become a
major player in the catalog sales retail electronics market. I probably
was on their mailing list somehow from my inquiries about shortwave
receivers or subscription to some electronics magazine. I was interested to
see that Tucker was trying to become a major distributor of Sony and other
HF receivers at this time. Their test equipment offerings didn't interest
me as much. ( This situation has reversed with time. )
In the last year i bought some test equipment manuals from Tucker - or
whoever owns the Tucker stock now. The manuals i bought were originals
and were stamped with something like "FILE COPY - DO NOT SELL". I
definitely had the impression the Tucker empire was waning. Today i
thought i'd have a look online and i find i get a "PAGE NOT FOUND" return on
Tucker.com "Sic transit gloria mundi". You can push all you want,
but if the market is just not there, or not large enough, you can't make the
dream become reality.
Tucker was based in Dallas TX.
