Photos, story, and short vid.

I lived within a mile of this Geen Lake, Seattle site back in the early
1960s and then again in the early 1970s.

I know some Green Lake stories and this one will become another classic.

At the Puyallup hamfest i met up with Len Meagher, a jeep guy whom i'd sold
some SCR-694 components. He was

at this auction and was able to give me an interesting account. You'll see
some comm gear items in the vid. Len

told me that Paul Allen ( Microsoft; Flying Heritage Collection, Everett WA
) had a rep show up at 15:00 the DAY

BEFORE the morning of the auction to wait there so as to be first in line.
This rep handed over instantly $150,000

cash money for three vehicles: the tank and two others. The price was
untypically low for including a tank because

tank was in unrestored condition. Gun was cut off; tank had been used by a
logging company. Len told me he saw

a NOS GRC-9 go for $60. Len told me he was digging and found a WW2 field
phone wire reel; he set it behind him

and continued digging. When he turned around, the reel was gone; somebody
had grabbed it. He kept on digging

and found another better one, with wire, and set it behind him again, and
went back to digging. But when he turned

around, this one had disappeared also. He did find a GN-58 handcrank
generator setup.

Fun for the boys.
