I personally use Tufoil as my general lubricant, others use Mobile One.  For a grease substitute, I use White Lithium grease.  Don't know what others use.
The only receiver I have done the "full monty" on is the R-390A but I have an FRR-23 on the bench that would benefit from a good cleaning and lube.
Might as well poke the hornet's nest by stating that I do not lube gears, only pivot points and bearing surfaces with just a drop of Tufoil on the end of a wire.  Over lubrication attracts dust which chews up gears according to the clock collecting community.  I figure that they would know best about the care and feeding of a gearwork.  http://www.perpetualpc.net/oil_clocks.html
For cleaning I use both WD-40 in a pump bottle (much cheaper then the aerosol cans) and then Krud Kutter, also in a pump bottle.  Krud Kuter was the only cleaner I found at the time that said that it did not attack aluminum.  Not sure about simple green and the other favorite cleaners.
This method seems to make short work of getting rid of the built up of grease residue with the help of an acid brush with a wooden dowel extension.  I rinse with water and then alcohol; denatured, not the good stuff, also in a spray bottle.  Then I use the Tufoil and Lithium grease as above.  Don't forget the little rollers on the slug racks.
Once the R-390A is back together, I recenter the two bushings on the front panel for the kc and mc shafts.  This greatly reduces binding and makes things move smoothly.  It is amazing how well things move when all is done.Jim

A manual for a receiver I have says that lubricants to use are:

MIL-G-3278http://www.matweb.com/search/datasheettext.aspx?matguid=00866de0e40a4b48bad6d07e92f322bd
MIL-L-7870https://fmv.se/FTP/M7789-000183/datablad/M0741-042000_Aeroshell_fluid_3.pdf

What would be the civilian brand names or
substitutes?

Thanks
