"AIRCRAFT COMMUNICATIONS - Navy Training Courses - Edition of 1944" ( No
other or numerical identifier. But - this is not a rare book; is regularly
seen on Ebay - overpriced usually. )

p 65, "SPECIAL CHARACTERS" chapter:

"CALLING RULES
The call-up is the first transmission establishing communication between two
stations. If communication is difficult, you MAY [verbatim] make the call
signs twice in the first
transmission.
EXAMPLE - A2D A2D V BF6 BF6 K
In other cases, make the call signs once only.
EXAMPLE - A2D V BF6 K"

p 66

"The abbreviated call is never used in the initial transmission of a message
but is commonly used in any calling and answering incident to the message.
The abbreviated
message omits the call sign of the station called. If there is any
possibility of confusion, a full call should be used.
A full call - BF6 V A2D INT GR37 K
Abbreviated call - V A2D INT GR37 K "

p 56

"Naval procedure signs, which are referred to in this book as 'prosigns',
are single letters or characters, or combinations of letters and characters
that have a certain
meaning."

( list follows)

"AA Unknown station
AB All before....
......
J Verify and repeat
K Go ahead....
......
V From
W For information to
........"

End quoted material. I may have a transcript of a ground radio unit, U.S.
Army, same period, but i don't have a clue as to exactly where to look right
now.
