Subject: [Milsurplus] TCS receiver
I have used a TCS13 combination on the Australian 7125khz net for over eight years. Regarding barn door IF bandwidth, I made a copy of the Collins plug in 353A crystal filter module with 6BA6/6AU6 and filter of choice. Fixes bandwidth problem, and no mods to RX. The original carbon mike audio left a lot to be desired, found a good electret mike and amplifier schematic on a French telephone website that plugs into the mike socket on TX. I get studio quality audio reports. The circuit I use rolls off under 300hz and top limit around 3.3khz, and again no mods to TX.
The TCS series is a great way to get on AM, I have found mine to be extremely reliable with only a 12A6 failure in the TX, the receiver makes a few noises for the first sixty seconds, and then will run for hours with no issues at all. Will look into this one eventually.
A final request, my receiver had the original audio OP transformer removed, with a substitute speaker tranny hanging on one screw . As I use the remote control head with internal speaker, I wired up an MN26 audio tranny which works perfectly, but of course won't fit. It lies in the crystal bay.
Anyone got a spare transformer, or a good close up photo I can post around to help me look for one.
Thanks...Michael VK4ZKT
