Bob (Downs) sure has that right about brake fluid and rubber; at least the
DOT 3 variety. I've had the misfortune of restoring a couple of Series IIA
Land Rovers that got DOT 3 put into the system. You don't rebuild, you toss
everything and replace with new. Way back when, it was easy to tell the
right stuff - -Girling Crimson was the correct brake (and clutch) fluid.
With its bright red color (colour) it was unmistakable.
On a more relevant topic - -the rubber earphone caps; Old rubber doesn't
"restore" well, but you can clean it up and make it look better with
ArmorAll.
