Were they concerned about LO radiation being picked up by other receivers on board ship? This is another reason to minimize LO radiation.

My point was that NRL was evidently designing Navy receivers in the
early/mid-1930s to minimize LO radiation. It wasn't wartime panic; to
them it was a prudent concern for future DF capability.
