I don’t see evidence the U.K. or Kriegsmarine considered this worrisome.  

As i said, some U.K. merchant ships carried regen receivers which would not have passed FCC requirements. 

( ex. Marconi 730, wood cabinet for starters. )

The U-boats themselves carried an entertainment radio, the Radio R-2, which was a derivative of a pre-war

Austrian civilian portable and car radio.
The only relevant U-boat i myself have read was a memoir published in ‘Sea Classics’ magazine. The former 

U-boat man said they had listened on the ship bands but heard nothing. ( Communications had moved to

signal flags, blinker, and 72 MHz AM ) 

No con job; people in USA were panicked over multiple reverses following outset of war.
