[Milsurplus] BC-224, 348 versions

One of the BC-348s I have has a metal KLM tag where the usual nameplate was.
Some modifications but I don't know if they were before or after KLM use.
>From the front the notable modifactions is a numbered skirt on the tuning
knob and a coax connector for antenna (removed, looks like it was an
SO-239). Also frequency chart holders over the sub-panel. No power supply
but that looks like after KLM.

( This is from BC-348 BC-224 Yahoo group, but also sending it to milsurplus
for possible input. )

Slightly related. October 2015 at the Rickreall, Oregon hamfest, i sold two
French army rebuilds.
One BC-312 and one BC-342. The 312 still had the dynamotor in. They both
had new nameplates

dated, i think, 1961 – and indicated a one-year guarantee. They both
retained the original BC-

name. The rebuilder named on the label was SFR – Societe Francaise de Radio
( if i recall. )

The BC-342 had a cabinet with the dual – diversity cutout on back,
indicating maybe the cabinet

had been swapped from another set. I think i sold them each for $75. Kind of
a low price, but i

really did not want to pack for shipping these heavy things. One odd thing,
the panel markings

were redone in English – but the dial light control on the BC-312 was
written “DIAL LINGHT”.

I was in France in 1972 and picked up an electronics magazine and saw in the
back, ads for such

BC-312 receivers.

I had 7 of BC-312 receivers which i sold last year, along with maybe 5
BC-348. The BC-312s, i

was just tired of their weight, plus the tuning knob action i never really
liked. One of the BC-312s

though, had a perfectly smooth tuning action.

One receiver i sold was a BC-224-D with dynamotor. I think i priced it at
$100 or $125. Hamfest

prices, if you want to actually sell something, are definitely lower than
ePay prices. I was going

to remove the dynamotor and sell it separately but when i opened it at the
hamfest, i saw that

one lug on the power terminal block was soldered, and rather than cut the
wire, i thought, well

that settles that, i’ll just sell it with the dynamotor.

How’s this for a rough preliminary count of BC-224-348 types?

BC-224-A ( early different appearance and no LF )

BC-224 and BC-348-B thru ? letter with modern appearance but no LF

BC-224 and 348 with LF

BC-348-S conversion to add LF

Airline labeled receivers ( with added-on nameplate, not relabeled ) for
postwar use

military-used receivers with professionally installed AC supply ( generally
have added nameplate )

E-348 Germany ( 3 versions – non-repainted, with original nameplate. Others
relabeled, one with added control marking plates; one with control markings
right on panel )

France air force labeled receiver ?

Russian US-9 ( 2 versions, early and late ? )

R-584 and R-589 relabeled and equipped with squelch box on top ( for
“Forward Air Control” in radio jeep with ART-13. )
