Okay. A DD-1 or ARC-21, when are you going to see the next one? You don’t know? That kind of answers the ‘rarity issue’.
BC-224-C ( i chose this example because this one does still not have the LF band, compared to the flood of later ones that do ) you’ll
see in a year or two or three. BC-224-A, or even BC-224-B, it’s going to be a while, you might have to wait ten years or more to see
another one.
I don’t recall any thread or post speculating about numbers produced. I think we have actual numbers for a small minority of actual
equipment, if you consider navy equipment also. It’s really hard to guess, yes guess about PRC-1 or PRC-5 numbers for example.
You have to guess, i suppose, based loosely on how many owners have surfaced, which is a tough call, altho a little less so than
in pre-internet days. ( For the PRC-1 and -5 you can make a semi-intelligent guess at least to the correct number of decimal places. )
Brings to mind the Navy CMS radio set, whose serial numbers look like they were intended to confuse. What does serial number
“ 25H “ mean ?
The AN/TRC-2, i think i saw the production numbers at 124. Who would have thought it would be so low?
-H
