Yes. In fact, if you have and use MS-Office, there are at least two easy
solutions:

1) MS has an "add-in" to MS-Word which allows you to "Save-As" your
Word files in either PDF or XFS format. It is free from Microsoft. MS-Word
will accept .RTF files and output those in any of several formats. If you have
added the above "add-in" to MS-Word, then those files will be automatically
"Saved-As" either PDF or XFS. I've never used the .XFS format, but routinely
use the PDF format.

2) There is a collection of software which while not exactly "free" certainly
costs a very reasonable amount: $9.95. It is available at
http://www.pdf995.com

I have used this software, and upgraded it regularly, for years. I also used it
at the University of Idaho, and installed it on many staff computers.

It also enables one to extract chosen sections of PDFs, like pages out of a
PDF manual for instance, or to encrypt PDF files, etc. In my experience, it
has been very reliable and useful. I use it in preference to MS's PDF add-in
for much of my work with PDFs.

Lastly, many scanners include software which will output the scan in PDF
format. Both HP and Epson software which is included with their
"All-in-Ones" do this. I have both an Epson XP-810 and an HP OfficeJetPro
8610 and both will do this.

BTW, the Epson is, in my opinion and experience, very poor in many
respects when compared to the HP.

For one thing, its ink is far too expensive, costing the equivalent of
$11,000.00 per gallon (!), it is very, very much more difficult to integrate into
a home network. I have to continually fool with the Epson, while the HP
simply sits there and works.

The only advantage to the Epson is that it is very much smaller than the HP.
The HP is huge by comparision.

Anyway, enough of this. I hope I have helped.
