Blair Shaw was asking about pruning the TBX a little so as to reach 40
meters.
Blair, I found I had a photocopy of the one page on this, from Navships
900,000.1 Service Notes Communications.
Assuming it's not already online, I offer to mail you this one page, reply
with QTH.
I don't know where I have stashed the book at present. It does have notes on
RBL, RBM, RBS, and so on. Most of the
notes I read are not major revelations.
As I said, I believe it's for the pre-8 model. The schematic does not
specify the output tube, only identifying it as
V301.
Maybe this page will be of some slight interest or use to you. You could
report your results back here and accrue
good karma.

I am interested in doing such a (small) mod on my TBXs too. Would make them
much more fun. Altho maybe you
wouldn't want to run the pre-8 in the VFO mode. ( single tube oscillator! )
I was told years ago, though, that the
VFO-oscillator was no problem for 80m AM.

Funny thing, I recall reading about the Navy coastwatchers in China
1943-1945, that the outstations used a "7 Mcs.
portable radio". From the text and from a photo I have seen, this is the
TBX.
