Neat. This reminds me back in the late 60's when I used an HP-540B transfer
oscillator by itself as a transmitter on 2 meter FM. Used a separate
receiver. I was able to talk on several local repeaters and some 146.52
simplex stations. At the same time I did use a BC-221 to grind crystals. 73

I've posted some info on using the BC-221 as a transceiver and also as a
handy VFO for crystal controlled transmitters. I checked into the East Coast
Old Military Radio Net (CW) last Sunday Night  with the BC-221.
