QST for Sep. 1944, in article "The Signal Corps in Engineering", with
section "The Walkie Talkie Story", p 36
shows a BC-1000. BUT - this one:
has no "short antenna" connector
antenna insulator is large tall white ceramic
in place of push-for-dial light, a 10 position rotary switch with a covered
jack marked "METER"
under lid, right side tag shows what these 10 metered positions sample
in place of relay and squelch, looks like a wire pushee-connector marked
"CALIBRATE"
also some control markings are worded differently, for example "DIAL SET" as
later "INDICATOR ADJUSTMENT"
No doubt the large ceramic insulator was viewed as a liability, and also it
became clear that there was no reason for the user in combat to need to know
what stage of the
radio had failed.
