I always choose USPS for lightweight packages, especially tubes
The rate is almost always better and the handling is usually very good
And, if there is a claim from items I received (I have NEVER had a claim on
anything I have sent in 40 years of shipping) then USPS is easiest to deal
with and prompt payment of the claim.
I did the online shipping thing with USPS and don't have to wait in a line
at the post office either

Here's a couple of stories about UPS:
If you have a package that is 1/4 inch over the dimensions stated on the
carton (for instance a Lowe's 16 X 12 X 12 box), you get banged for the next
inch up. If the top or sides bulge, the box becomes something like 17 X 13 X
13. Heavier stuff doesn't seem to incur more charge, but lighter packages
get you in trouble. Also, it doesn't matter how light a box is, you pay the
CEO of UPS part of his 5 million dollar salary, anyway. I had a customer
tell me to send a one-pound box by UPS. Cost would have been $14.78 by
ground. It went by Post Office, $5.25.
