Iremember the Carrier Current systems that were in the old WWII wooden ArmyHospitals. I spent 3 months in the Hospital in Ft Ord in 1966 and they had a smallbuilding that had shelves that housed a large record library. Therewas a “U” shaped console that had a beautiful E.H. Scott receiver and patchpanel in the center. On each side were broadcast turntables for playingrecords.  Outsidewere 5 telephone poles installed in a wide “C” shaped arc that had a heavy dutywideband dipole antenna installed that fed the E. H. Scott receiver. Therewas a patch and termination bay closed off from the rest of the area where allof the pillow speakers and general area speakers throughout the hospital were terminated. Thesystem was inoperative and I asked the Hospital Holding Company 1SG if I could lookinto getting it up and running. And he told to have at it. It took me 3 weeksto get everything checked out and operating well enough to put it back intoservice. Ituned the big Scott to a local AM Radio Station and left it on 24/7. There werea few glitches and some complaints, but it was back in operation. For how long Idon’t know, because after I was released I was on my way to another assignment. WhenI was stationed at Ft Hood, they were tearing down the old wooden hospital anda HAM friend of mine who was a local, bought all the equipment from the hospitalstation from the Property Disposal Office. I helped him to strip everythingfrom the building. The console was made into a really nice Ham Radio Operatingposition. That Scott receiver needed a couple of tubes and a good blast of airto clean it up and it was really a nice radio to listen too.  Whiletrying to find background about the Carrier Current Radio Systems I found thisarticle about the Hospital at Ft Lewis (http://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm&file_id=10416).

I used to have all the drawings and schematicsfor the Radio Station Building for hospitals. They included the architecturaldesign and building drawings. The Antenna installation drawings and theinterior equipment layout and schematics. I wish I knew where they were now. RICHWA6KNW
