[Milsurplus] [AWA] strange antenna? [2 Attachments]

I suspect ASW helicopter (LAMPS) air-ship communication/data link use -
where else would you be able to have a narrow beam rotating airborne
*communications* link? Well maybe E-2 Hawkeye to carrier (Navy "AWACS")?
Just idle speculation - I know as much as Sgt Schultz.....
