[Milsurplus] Lubing the ARC-2 Dynamotor Bearings

Terry,

The warning "Do not pack bearings" means not to put so much grease in there 
that the cover when replaced squeezes it out the armature side.  Because it 
will be slung all over the place, including onto the commutator.  It does 
NOT mean that if the bearings are newer, don't lube them.  I would not use 
brake cleaner unless you remove the armature from the dynamotor.  

If you do remove the armature from the dynamotor, , do not remove the 
bearings from it unless you have new replacements.  The reason is that the only 
way to remove them is to pull on the outer race because until you get them 
partially pulled, you cannot get any kind of puller on the inner race.  The 
bearings are a press fit on the armature.  Removing them by pulling on the 
outer race will damage them because of something known as "Brinelling".  
Installing them by pushing on the outer race also destroys them.

At 70 deg. F, ANDOC C has about the consistency of peanut butter.  Although 
not quite as sticky and stringy.
