Respectfully, Don:
People have tried the "150 degrees for hours" approach
with things which have already failed from water
contamination, like old capacitors, many times before
and have nearly always failed to recover them.
A higher temp, shorter time has worked for me now
with old capacitors (still no new failures) and with
Bakelite-insert plugs. You are certainly right- that sort
of stress is dangerous, but by this point there is literally
"nothing to lose" by taking sterner measures and,
it now seems, a good chance of gaining usable materials.
