Welcome to the club on that one! I've got the same problem.
I've been looking around for some small brass rivets to replace the
ones holding the plastic in place.
BTW... I'm also looking at OTHER materials rather than plexiglass;
setting rivets is almost certain to
result in cracking around the rivet holes..
