[Milsurplus] R-808 / GRC-14 question

I was reading in the R-808 manual the other night and I read that to align
the RF and IF sections, you must remove these subassemblies from the
receiver and connect them back into the receiver via cables. This does
NOT sound like fun at all to me. Has anyone here actually done this, and
how much of a hassle did it prove to be?
Made me think of the contrast to the HRO, where you pop off the bottom
plate, or open the top lid, and there it all is, set out like a Midwest road
map.
