Speaking tubes were often installed in old apartment buildings here in
Syracuse to supplement the doorbell. Telephones were sometimes provided,
but they were expensive and subject to vandelism. Has anyone had any
experience with the speaking tubes on a ship? How well would they work
in a noisy engine room?
