Although it could be used "dismounted" (as could the BC-342), the PRIMARY
purpose of the BC-312-(*) in SCR-299-A,B,C,D, 399-A,B and 499-A,B was to
operate off of the 12 volt battery in the truck, shelter or location of
opportunity when neither the generator nor commercial 115 VAC was available for the
BC-342-(*). There was also an SCR-499-C, but that was post-war.
The other common uses of BC-312 or BC-342 were:
BC-312-(*)
SCR-177-B, SCR-193-(*), SCR-210-(*), SCR-245-(*), AN/VRC-1
BC-342-(*)
SCR-188-A, AN/MRC-1, AN/MRC-2,A,B, AN.MRQ-2, AN/TRQ-1
Note that this is another example where the nomenclature actually does
matter. SCR-177-A and SCR-188 (no suffix letter) used BC-189-A as the receiver.
