The BC-312 series, which are generally the same as the BC-342 series, suffered the same fate. Sometimes, it is basically impossible, at least very difficult, to actually restore the unit.
I obtained a BC-312M that met such conditions. The receiver was rebuilt to again be a well working receiver. However, the physical appearance of that receiver is definitely not anything like the original.

It was done a lot in the past when these receiver were
cheap and plentiful. They are not today.
Such needless and destructive modifications are looked-down
upon and will reduce the resale value of your receiver
considerably. I, personally, would never pay anything
at all for one missing the connector unless I needed parts.
That said, "to each his own."
