It was done a lot in the past when these receiver were
cheap and plentiful.  They are not today.
Such needless and destructive modifications are looked-down
upon and will reduce the resale value of your receiver
considerably.  I, personally, would never pay anything
at all for one missing the connector unless I needed parts.
That said, "to each his own."
