Hi Dave,

I have both the dynamotor and the vibrator supply for the BC-223AX and I use
it mostly with the dynamotor. The reason is that with the same primary DC
voltage I get about 10 W out on CW from the transmitter with the vibrator
supply (both sides are working in mine) and almost 18W with the dynamotor.
The HV out of the vibrator supply is around 80 V less than from the
dynamotor. I guess I could make up for the voltage drop in the rectifier
tubes if I made solid state diode plug-ins instead of the tubes.
I really can't think of any other reason for doubling up on the vibrator s
and iron, but perhaps reliability is the issue. On AM the current draw is
higher, so at least on CW communications still can be maintained with only
one half of the total current capability with the vibrator supply.
There is a mailing list with the BC-223 theme here:
http://www.yahoogroups.com/list/bc-223 . Maybe someone already dealt with
the question before on that list and can give or already gave a better
answer. You can go over previous postings on the site.

The BC-223 is a fun little rig and it looks good with the BC-312...

Have fun!

Subject: [Milsurplus] SCR-245, BC-223 PE-125-AX Vibrator Supply

Does anyone have experience with the PE-125-AX
vibrator power supply for the BC-223 transmitter?
The thing has two identical vibrator supplies
which are connected in parallel on the B+ output.
They have some heavy iron in them.
This transmitter puts-out 10 watts- not much.
In mine, one of the supplies has bad iron.
I pulled the fuses and the vibrator on the bad side.
The other side is operating well.

I can't imagine this 10W rig needs double the current
that one of these supplies can source.
Manual has no explanation.
Does anyone know why this unit has dual supplies?
Does the BC-223 really need the extra current
or is it some kind of "redundancy" thing?
