I have been using the Caig D-100 for something like 15 years. Mostly for noisy pots, I use the Deoxit D5. It is similar to it's predecessor product, "Cramolin" which has been around for over 100 years and was originally made to clean motor / generator commutators, until the EPA banned it and Caig lost it's US distribution rights. The Caig Deoxit is a variant of the original Cramolin and in my 50+ years of servicing electronics I have never found a better product. ( You can still buy the original Cramolin in Europe. It originated in Germany in the late 1800's The "Cramolin line manufactured in the US is NOT the same due to EPA restrictions) http://www.itwcp.de/ueber-uns.html
Why not grease? Because it's grease and brings it own associated problems in the long run...no matter if it's white, silicone, lithium or whatever. It will migrate over time and most will conduct.
Just recently, I have been pulling my mil-surplus gear out of 10 years of un-heated storage and most, if not all, of the connectors need help. The "Liberty" line of synthetic oil I have found to be superior for mechanical use, not on the electrical contacts. It's not re-packaged motor oil. Time will tell on this one, but my experience so far has been good. ( ebay Item # 111005340907 )
YMMV, opinions on this subject are like something else we all have...
