[Milsurplus] Format of Military Nomenclature

It depends -
C-10280 never I believe
The general scheme is
C-10280/ALQ if designed to be used with other ALQ systems
C-10280/ALQ-144 if designed to be used only with AN/ALQ-144

But there are times where an existing component of a system later gets
used in other systems but retains the original nomenclature. Example
is PP-454/FRT-5 which got used for AN/FRT-5, AN/FRT-6, AN/FRT-24,
AN/FRT-26, etc.

So, you'd really have to find more info to see if it is C-10280/ALQ or
C-10280/ALQ-144 or C-10280/ALQ-666

I don't know what Fred Chesson's scheme might have indicated.

And while unlikely for an ALQ component, it isn't unusual to find
something like C-1138/UR which could be used with receiver (URR)
and/or transmitter (URT) systems - or LS-139/G indicating even more
flexibility.

Aha - NJ7P's list says C-10280/ALQ-144 and C-9576/ALQ-144 (which is
also part of ALQ-136) and T-1360/ALQ-144

Also try MIL-HDBK-140A as it might be able to help you -
