I've used them as bucking (step-down) filament regulators in several 
projects
and they've worked very well with little RFI problems.
However, these were fed by already-regulated 28 or 12 VDC supplies,
so their input was "quiet."
My interest is whether anyone has attempted to use them as the
primary regulator after an otherwise unregulated supply, i.e.
a bridge rectifier and filter providing unregulated 28 VDC to
be "bucked" down to a regulated 12 V with one of these.
