[Milsurplus] sweep tubes

I did some looking at sweep tube specs in thinking about a 2E22 replacement. The
problem with most sweepy tubes is the suppressor is internal connected to the
cathode. Not to mention the question of how to install it. I would not actually
want to remove the original socket in the transmitter.
One of the coolest tube subs i have ever seen was from Max Kaplan, showing me
his Torn.E.b. receiver. The RV2P800 tubes cost generally around $30 each, for a tube
that is basically a 1T4 but 2V 0.2A filament. These are German tubes that mount
flush into recessed sockets, the tubes look like ammo for an RPG and have removable
extractor knobs on top. He had somehow demounted the guts of the tube, retained the
base and extractor, and mounted a US standard 7 pin socket in it. So when you pulled
the extractor knob and removed the tube, it revealed a 1T4 socketed there. However
due to the filament difference you have to do all four in the receiver, no mix & match.
I think the 'tube substitution' subject will be an increasingly popular one as prices for
some of the rarities continues to, as the saying goes, "skyrocket".
