Yes. The Allies saw them in North Africa, I think, and decided to clone
the design.
The clones were used on the US 'Jeeps', etc.

Agreed, but the terms got mixed up, so the original Naval term 'Jury Rig'
(emergency lashup)became 'Jerry Rig', during WWII, I think.
The term Jerry Rig has really annoyed me for many years. It is clearly
improper usage.
