[Milsurplus] FL-8 Conversion

Yes, that hated word.
Has anyone opened the FL-8 to see if one can add capacitance to bring
the RANGE frequency down to maybe 500-700 Hz area, for use as a
CW filter? CQ magazine had a schematic on how to use the inductors,
but I'm thinking that was more of a makeover than I want to do. They
also published a schematic but it's not clear as to how radical a
departure from the original this was. Also, I read that some ham
individual at least for a few months offered his own published
small booklet on the FL-8. Anyone ever see that? No? Probably as
rare as "CQ Snohomish" too.
I found I have several of the FL-8 but 1000 Hz is just too high a
CW pitch for me.
In my No-vice days I used a TCS receiver with some kind of
milsurplus audio filter can out of "something" unknown. Worked
pretty good but it was a little too sharp - echoed pretty bad,
CW tended to sound like a rock throwing fight in a railroad
tunnel. Much moreso than the Heathkit Q-Mult I later used.
