They  were designed to be used in broadcast work, I think.
My experience was in  USAF navigational aid facilities,
and we used a few.  But I could be  wrong.
Trivia:  The AN/FRC-19 Control Tower of those days used
the  AM-447 on the audio lines to the remote  sites.

control.   A meter can be switched between the output of the 6SK7's and then 
the other  way to read the output of the actual output transformer.  Last 
person to  work on it wrote a 1963 service date under the chassis.  Like to 
know  more about this thing and where it might have been used.
