 That was probably the only person in the world who
would pay big money for this huge VHF transmitter.
The market for even light, easily-worked old VHF
 is vanishingly small.
Tell him to give Ebay one shot; you never know.
Start at a low price, no reserve and hang on for dear life.
Even if it goes cheap on ebay, that's one BIG albatross
no longer around his neck.
Donation and a tax deduction is likely the best he can do.
